Understanding My Grandmothers English
Understanding My Grandmothersâ English We travelled to Eastern Montana to see my Grandmothers. I couldnât help imagining my students meeting them and trying to understand their English. They speak in an older way and use tons of idioms and strange colloquial phrases. The mountains near Lewistown, where one of my grandmothers lives.Iâm going to review a few here and talk about some of the idioms that you might hear an older American use. This is the ultimate test of your English level. Next time we visit them I will record them talking about something and post it to see if you can understand. They are also very good story tellers and as old Montanans they have some fascinating stories. Here are some idioms and colloquial English phrases my grandmothers from Eastern Montana commonly use:See if you canâtthey use this when they are suggesting something or want you to do something. For example: See if you canât find the news station on TV. She is asking you to find the news station. I think this is a way of being polite and is a bit of colloquial English.Say.This is like the old version of hey. It is to get your attention. For example: Say, Teauna did you hear about your cousin? They always use it at the beginning of a sentence, just as an attention stopper.DrinkMy grandmother uses this for any body of water, the kitchen sink, the swimming pool, the lake, or the bath. For example: Just put your plate in the drink and Iâll wash it up later (kitchen sink). Well, Iâm going to go get in the drink before bed (bathtub). This summer we made it to the drink every weekend (lake).Hotter than a pistolthis is used when it is hot outside. This fall it was hotter than a pistol.Madder than a hornetthis is used to describe when someone is very angry. He was just madder than a hornet when he found out about his paycheck.

5 Ways to Survive Spring Semester of Senior Year
5 Ways to Survive Spring Semester of Senior Year Spring Semester of Senior Year: 5 Ways to Survive Spring Semester of Senior Year: 5 Ways to Survive Spring semester of senior year in high school is now underway. This can be a time of mixed emotions and huge life changes that can strongly affect a students ability to concentrate. Although it seems like high school is pretty much over, its important for students to be able to survive and thrive through this last term so they can keep their grades up and maintain stability. If seniors can look at a few of the common problems they may face, theyll have a better idea of how to survive spring semester. 1. College letters One of the things that will affect high school seniors the most this term is the arrival of college acceptance (and denial) letters. This will be a big issue for any student who applied to a college or university. Once students know their options for attendance, they will have the big decision of narrowing down their choice to just one school. Each student will have a different experience, and its important that they are able to maintain their concentration throughout the anticipation and decision-making process (READ: Tips from a Fullerton tutor: how to overcome senioritis). 2. Maintaining focus One way students can maintain focus is to get a little bit of help with organization. This may come from any number of apps, their classroom teacher, a parent, tutor, or study group. Its important that students think about both the small picture and the big one. Students will have any number of assignments, tests, and quizzes that they have to complete this week but they should also look at the remainder of the academic year as a whole and make sure theyre meeting all of their goals. Most seniors will be enrolled in an AP course, and will still have to maintain their focus so they can perform well on that exam in May (READ: Best 5 math apps for high school students). 3. Staying within a routine Seniors are encouraged to stick to the routine that has been working for them up until now. Once students know they have been accepted into college, it can be easy to give into the temptations of senioritis and stop trying altogether. However, students who have a strong dip in GPA right at the end of their high school career may be denied the opportunity for scholarship-based financial aid or graduation honors. Additionally, seniors are encouraged to remember that their university acceptance is conditional; meaning that if their GPA changes significantly, the college may revoke their acceptance. Students can stay within their routine by continuing to meet with their tutor and study group, continuing to participate in any volunteer or after school clubs, and arranging for social time on the weekends. 4. Getting ready for next year At this point, seniors shouldnt look too far into the future when it comes to making specific plans because it may distract them from their current applications. However, there are a few things seniors need to look at sooner rather than later. Financial aid and scholarship applications will require immediate attention and students will need to make sure they have done everything required to enroll in their chosen university. Other than that, students are encouraged to make a checklist with due dates for everything they need to do during the summer so they can get started as soon as high school ends (READ: 4 differences between high school and college that may catch you by surprise). 5. Spend quality time with friends and family One of the most important things seniors can do is simply spend quality time with friends and family who they wont see as much next year. Most college freshman will be making all new friends in a few months so its nice to enjoy current high school friendships so they can survive the distance of college life. Additionally, when students are off at college, they may miss their family more than they think. Spring semester is a great time to participate in social activities with family and friends before going off to the big adventure that is the university experience. Four Ways to Work Out With a Full-Time Job
Four Ways to Work Out With a Full-Time Job Image via Pexels.com The quick nature of HIIT workouts makes them the perfect routine to incorporate into your day. Wake up a little early before workâ"easier said than done, but you can do itâ"and do a short HIIT to get your body moving for the day. Youâll feel more awake and ready to take on the dayâs tasks while also working towards your fitness goal! Alternatively, you can complete a workout as soon as you get home from work. You can find tons of HIIT workouts online, especially videos by various fitness gurus on YouTube. Here is a sample HIIT workout by Melody Scharff from The Fhitting Room. 2. Use every free minute wisely Thereâs always time for working out in your day, even in moments youâd least expect. If you have extra time on your lunch break, go for a walk around the building outside. Instead of driving to and from work every day, try walking if itâs close enough. You can also walk to the bus stop and go to work from there. According to Experience Life, âpeople who take alternative transportation tend to get more exercise than daily car commuters.â Even just a brisk five-minute walk every so often during your workday will help build your endurance. You have to start somewhere, and soon enough youâll be able to jog for a mile! Image via Pexels.com If youâre constantly competing with yourself, try using a pedometer, a step-counter. Youâll have a daily step goal to reachâ"see if you can beat it! All of you tech-savvy fitness lovers should invest in a FitBit. Alternatively, iPhones also have a pedometer in the built-in Health app. 3. Stay active at your desk If youâre stuck at that desk job all day, why not get some health benefits from it? Try doing some workouts while you get your work doneâ"the best type of multitasking there is. Studies have shown that sitting all day isnât so great for your health. This is because when we sit, we burn less calories. So, if you sit at a desk for 8 hours, thatâs 8 hours of not burning any calories. To eliminate this problem, ditch the rolling desk chair for a stability ball. Now, although itâs fun to do, donât just bounce on the ball all day while you work. Sitting on a stability ball will strengthen your core. Do a few crunches every so often to keep your body active while you sit. You should also consider standing at your desk for at least half an hour. Image via Pexels.com Try some leg raises or butt squeezes at your desk if youâre concerned about remaining subtle. No one will notice these small but effective movements under your desk! Here are some more ideas for staying active at your desk. 4. Find some fun workouts that youâll enjoy doing One of the most important aspects of a successful workout is your attitude. If you dread working out, you arenât going to see the best results. To stay motivated for your fitness plan, choose some workout routines that you enjoy doing. Try fencing, yoga, swimming, or dancing. Here are a few fun ways to get fit without a gym. You can also set up a reward system for finishing workouts, such as television time or eating a small snack. Create a playlist of your favorite music that you only listen to while you work outâ"this way, youâll work forward to fitness. Try doing some workouts with a close friend a few times each week. Working out should always be something you enjoy. If you find that you arenât enjoying your fitness plan, make changes as soon as possible.

A Review of the Texas TAFE League City Team
A Review of the Texas TAFE League City TeamOne of the largest and most known clubs in the country is the Texas TAFE League City. The Texas State Board of Education is known for their consistent efforts to ensure the education of their students, and as a result, each of the schools in this great state has a proper education system that serves the needs of their students. The school board members have worked hard to ensure that every student has access to an education that is of the highest standard possible. These schools have earned the trust of many parents and students, and are now recognized as some of the best places to go to school in the entire country. The year after graduation, the students are rewarded by being able to walk on campus and be in a school with a good reputation. The students at this great college, the University of Texas at Austin, strive to maintain this level of quality to every single day. This is done through having two student council members, one of which i s the student tutoring committee, who take a leadership role in ensuring that the school is providing a quality education. The role of the committee is to plan and implement the class schedules, program study days, and much more.Through this club, students and parents will be provided a resource to find out information about the different university campuses and will also get the chance to meet the various student affairs officers, who are responsible for all the programs that the college offers. The board of trustees at UT Austin have always been working hard to make sure that the students of the community are provided with the best education they can receive. The school also works hard to place students into graduate programs, which will further improve their professional career prospects. There are many other activities that are organized throughout the year that help to keep the students engaged. These students are then able to get the chance to make friends from all over the wor ld, while enjoying life as a member of this club. Students are provided the opportunity to meet new people, meet their classmates and faculty from different universities, and even go on field trips together.Tutoring at the university has continued throughout the years to remain one of the greatest parts of college life. The club is a great way for students to find out if they want to continue their education after their college years, or if they are on the path to get their college degree. These tutoring sessions are valuable experiences for the students as well, as they are able to gain many valuable lessons on academics and higher learning that can help them in their future career endeavors. While at least one of the students in the league city Texas, per semester, will find themselves on campus to receive their teaching assignment, there are many others who will have access to the tutoring staff in their house. The ultimate goal of the tutoring club is to offer a great program for all the students in the league city Texas, but that is not the only reason they are so successful. These students do not only receive their teaching assignments, but they also go on field trips to other schools in the area, see some of the sites that have made their home such as the Alamo, the Jefferson Davis statue, and much more.
